Moldova Parliament approves increase for medical insurance funds

The Parliament of Moldova has approved, in its first reading, a project to increase the revenues and expenditures of the Mandatory Medical Assistance Insurance Funds (FAOAM) for 2026. The amendment proposes an increase of 167.45 million lei, representing a 0.9% rise.

Following this adjustment, FAOAM revenues are projected to reach 18.99 billion lei, while expenditures are expected to rise to 19.38 billion lei. According to Lilia Gantea, Secretary General of the Ministry of Health, the additional funds will be directed toward primary medical assistance, pre-hospital emergency services, and ensuring population access to hospital services.

The revenue increase is attributed to a higher number of individuals paying fixed medical insurance premiums, increased tax collections from IT park residents and independent entrepreneurs, and higher voluntary donations from external sources intended for medical services provided to Ukrainian refugees.
