Moldova Parliament passes labor code overhaul and vehicle registration suspension law

The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova approved a package of legal reforms in its final reading on 9 July. A new provision introduces the concept of “employee with family responsibilities,” granting additional legal guarantees for parents and single caregivers, including recognition of maternity and paternity leave as contributory periods for public pensions and requiring written consent for night work involving children under 16.

The same session adopted rules for the automatic suspension of vehicle registration when a vehicle fails a technical inspection or the inspection expires. A suspension notice is entered in the state register; after a 30‑day grace period drivers may only use the vehicle to reach repair centres.

Another law creates a framework for Moldova to join the European Union’s Electronic Exchange of Social Security Information (EESSI), facilitating faster, paper‑less processing of pensions and benefits. A related draft also proposes adding a conflict‑of‑interest article to the labour code, obliging employees to declare any personal interests that could affect their loyalty to the employer.
