Maia Sandu leads EU integration commission meeting, outlines reform progress in Moldova
President Maia Sandu of the Republic of Moldova chaired the first session of the National Commission for European Integration that included members of the new government headed by Prime Minister Vasile Tofan. The meeting presented the implementation report for the first half of the 2026 accession programme and examined progress on the intermediate benchmarks for chapters 23 and 24, which cover justice, fundamental rights, freedom and security.
The agenda also set out the new government's priorities for EU integration and preparations for the 2026 EU enlargement package, ahead of the European Commission’s yearly assessment of Moldova’s progress. Sandu stressed that advancement toward EU membership depends on consistent reforms that deliver tangible benefits to citizens, and urged state institutions, local authorities, civil society and the private sector to remain mobilised and coordinated.
