Moldova proposes delaying passport fee increases

The Moldovan government has proposed delaying the implementation of new passport fees by two weeks. Originally scheduled to take effect on September 30, 2026, the new rates are now proposed to begin on October 15, 2026, coinciding with the launch of new passport models.

The delay is attributed to a lower-than-expected volume of recent passport applications. This has resulted in a surplus of old-style passport blanks at the Public Services Agency (ASP). By extending the deadline, authorities aim to utilize the existing stock and prevent financial losses from unused materials.

Under the new fee structure, the standard passport issuance fee will increase from 650 to 790 lei. Urgent processing fees will also see adjustments, ranging from 1,190 lei for 20 working days to 2,530 lei for same-day service. Additionally, fee increases for driver's licenses were previously announced for July 2026.
