Moldova proposes increased disability allowances for military and security personnel

The Moldovan Government, through a draft decree prepared by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, is proposing an increase in monthly disability allowances for military personnel and security forces. The measure targets individuals—including military members, intelligence and security officers, internal affairs personnel, and penitentiary administration employees—whose disabilities resulted from injuries or trauma sustained during the performance of military or special duties.

Under the proposal, monthly allowances for severe disabilities would rise from 1,600 to 1,850 lei, for pronounced disabilities from 1,450 to 1,700 lei, and for medium disabilities from 1,375 to 1,625 lei. Additionally, the draft includes a significant increase in the annual material aid for World War II participants, raising it from 10,000 to 30,000 lei, with payments scheduled by May 9. Those assimilated with war participants would receive an annual aid of 5,000 lei.

The draft also introduces revisions to beneficiary categories, including the removal of certain combat participants and military categories, and updates to the rights of families of deceased military members. Furthermore, new rules are proposed for the recovery of improperly paid benefits, which would be deducted monthly at a rate of 20% of the allowance, or up to 100% upon the beneficiary's request.
