Moldova and Czech Republic strengthen ties regarding EU accession and security
Moldovan President Maia Sandu met with a delegation from the Czech Senate's Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense, and Security to discuss bilateral cooperation. The discussions focused on Czech support for Moldova's accession to the European Union, security cooperation, and development assistance projects.
Czech officials, including Committee President Pavel Fischer, reaffirmed their commitment to Moldova's European path and regional stability. Support includes assistance for the RESTART reform, energy vulnerability reduction for low-income families, and humanitarian aid for Ukrainian refugees in Moldova. Additionally, discussions addressed strengthening energy resilience, specifically regarding renewable energy and storage capacities.
In separate domestic developments, the Ministry of Finance is proposing tax code amendments that would require Moldovan companies to include certain undistributed profits from controlled foreign companies in their taxable base to prevent artificial income transfers. Meanwhile, an investigation by Stop Fals addressed claims regarding 2027 fiscal policy, clarifying that cadastral reevaluations do not automatically trigger massive tax increases. Finally, a leadership program by the John Smith Trust has been launched for young Moldovan professionals to focus on the rule of law, transparency, and digital governance.
