Moldova Public Services Agency confirms only 32 centenarians alive

The Public Services Agency (ASP) of Moldova has reported that it cannot confirm the status of the majority of centenarians listed in the state population register. Out of 1,119 individuals recorded as being over 100 years old, only 32 have been confirmed to be alive and are currently receiving social benefits.

For the remaining 1,087 individuals, the agency lacks the necessary information to update their records. This discrepancy is attributed to many individuals holding expired Soviet-era passports that ceased to be valid in September 2014. Without valid identity documents or official records regarding deaths or emigration, the ASP is unable to determine if these citizens have passed away or moved abroad without official notification.

Among the 32 confirmed centenarians, 17 reside in Chișinău, nine are in the Briceni district, and six are in the Edineț district. Data from the National Bureau of Statistics also indicates that one in four people in Moldova is at least 60 years old.
