Moldova faces economic shifts and social ranking updates

Moldova is facing several socio-economic and political developments. President Maia Sandu addressed the rise of millionaires in the country, reaching nearly 10,000 in 2025. She stated that those earning income honestly and paying taxes should be appreciated, while emphasizing that the government's priority remains developing the middle class and supporting citizens in difficulty.

In terms of social rights, Moldova ranked 26th out of 49 European states in the 2026 Rainbow Map by ILGA-Europe, achieving a score of 38.41%. The report noted legislative changes over the last decade regarding equality and gender identity.

Economic and diplomatic challenges persist. The country's investment attractiveness dropped 19 positions in one year, placing it 101st in the Global Investment Risk and Resilience Index (GIRRI) by Henley & Partners. Additionally, Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi highlighted a discrepancy between Moldova's foreign policy ambitions and its available diplomatic resources.
