Moldova pushes EU accession reforms as Gherasimov meets EU officials

Vice‑prime minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov met with Gert Jan Koopman, director‑general for Enlargement and Neighbourhood East of the European Commission, in Chișinău. The discussion focused on maintaining the pace of reforms and preparing the next stages of Moldova’s EU accession negotiations after the EU’s summer recess. Gherasimov thanked the DG ENEST team, saying, “We are grateful for excellent collaboration in the first half of the year, for the expertise offered, and for guiding us through the steps of our European path.”

In a separate social‑media post, Gherasimov emphasized the need to adopt best practices from EU member states and thanked experts from the Dutch Clingendael Institute for their input. Moldova recently opened its first negotiation cluster on “Fundamental Values” (15 July 2026) and a second cluster on “External Relations” (14 July 2026), marking continued progress toward EU membership.
