Moldova reports increase in citizens recruited for Russian reconnaissance tasks

Moldovan Intelligence and Security Service (SIS) Director Alexandru Musteață has reported an increase in Moldovan citizens being recruited via Telegram to perform tasks for the Russian Federation. These individuals are reportedly paid approximately 50 euros to conduct reconnaissance, such as photographing buildings, vehicles, or intersections, which may be used to prepare for future actions in Ukraine.

Moldovan authorities are currently cooperating with Ukrainian security structures and police to identify these individuals and prevent potential operations. While the number of recruits is rising, the SIS has not yet observed a corresponding increase in actual operations being carried out on Moldovan territory.

Simultaneously, reports indicate that Russian-controlled media outlets, such as Sputnik Moldova, are utilizing obscure political figures to disseminate narratives critical of the Moldovan government and European Union integration. These propaganda efforts focus on themes such as energy costs and state stability to promote Kremlin-aligned viewpoints.
