Moldova reports progress in women's rights and violence protection at UN

Moldova has presented its progress regarding women's rights and the prevention of discrimination to the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) in Geneva. During the first half of 2026, 665 victims of violence utilized state-funded shelter services, representing a 51% increase compared to the same period in the previous year.

The national protection network has expanded to 11 shelters with a total capacity of approximately 230 places. Additionally, the helpline for women and girls recorded 2,188 calls in the first six months of 2026, doubling the 1,086 calls received during the same period in 2025.

To support women's participation in the labor market, the government has focused on childcare expansion. Since 2023, 1,264 new nursery places have been created, with plans to establish or renovate over 2,000 additional spots during 2026–2027. The employment rate for women with children under six has risen from 39.4% in 2019 to 50.7% in 2024.
