Moldova Rescue Services Warn of Summer Drowning Risks

The National Emergency Medical Assistance Center (CNAMUP) in Moldova reports a sharp rise in drownings during the summer months, with 34 incidents recorded since the start of the year, including seven minors. Rescue teams stress that a moment of inattention, lack of supervision, or swimming in unapproved locations can be fatal.

IGSU (the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations) issued safety recommendations urging the public to bathe only in authorized sites equipped with rescue stations, to keep children under constant watch, and to avoid alcohol before entering the water. In Chișinăvă there are five designated swimming zones, the popular Izvor area among them, each monitored by rescue personnel.

Valentina Vasilieva‑Railean, head of the Buiucani Sub‑Station, cited a successful resuscitation of a six‑year‑old boy as an example of how rapid response can save lives. Rescuer‑diver Sergiu Pascaru added that “water does not forgive mistakes; a single moment can change destinies,” reinforcing the call for strict adherence to safety rules.
