Moldova reserves school slots for Ukrainian refugee children and simplifies enrollment

The Ministry of Education and Research announced that, for the 2026‑2027 school year, 10% of the available places in first and tenth grades will be allocated to Ukrainian refugee children in Moldova. The new quota applies to both general and early‑education schools, covering 2,879 children in general education and 857 in early education, with additional pupils continuing studies online under the Ukrainian curriculum.

Procedures for registration have been substantially simplified. Classes taught in Ukrainian have been expanded at the Taras Shevchenko Gymnasium in Chișinău, and schools may open optional Ukrainian language circles at parents’ request. Romanian‑language courses are offered to both children and adults, and refugee students receive textbooks, psychopedagogical support, and assistance through cooperation between local authorities and international partners.
