Moldova seeks international investment to protect Dniester River

At the UN Biodiversity Conference (COP17) in Armenia, Moldova's Minister of Environment, Gheorghe Hajder, highlighted critical environmental crises facing the Dniester River. The river has recently experienced two major issues: petroleum pollution and declining water levels, both of which threaten local ecosystems and communities.

To combat these challenges, the Moldovan government is working toward expanding protected natural areas to cover 10% of the country's territory. Additional initiatives include the National Reforestation Program and the RE-MAP project, which aims to restore wetlands and degraded lands across 15 districts. Minister Hajder emphasized that achieving these goals requires significant investment and cooperation from international partners, local communities, and businesses.
