EU advances accession negotiations for Moldova and Ukraine

The European Union is advancing the accession processes for Moldova and Ukraine by opening new negotiation clusters. On October 13, Moldova is set to begin negotiations for two major clusters: the Internal Market and Competitiveness and Inclusive Growth. These clusters cover 17 chapters, including topics such as the free movement of goods, services, and capital, as well as digital transformation, taxation, and economic policy.

Simultaneously, the EU is opening two new negotiation chapters with Ukraine. This progress follows the Ukrainian Parliament's adoption of a law strengthening the linguistic and educational rights of national minorities, a reform previously requested by Hungary to facilitate Ukraine's EU integration.

In energy developments, Moldova is exploring gas imports from Ukraine. The Ukrainian government may lift its moratorium on natural gas exports to bolster its state budget, potentially providing Moldova with a surplus of approximately 500 million cubic meters. While officials note that prices will likely reflect market rates, discussions are ongoing regarding long-term contracts to secure more favorable pricing for Moldova.
