Moldova seeks to open all EU accession negotiation chapters by year‑end

Moldovan officials announced that the EU accession process has moved to the opening of Cluster 6 – External Relations, and they expect all negotiation chapters to be opened before the end of the year. The statements were made by Romanian eurodeputy Eugen Tomac in an interview in Brussels.

Tomac said that completing the external‑relations chapter will strengthen Moldova’s economic integration with the EU and give it full access to the Union’s common commercial policy. He noted that more than 75 % of Moldova’s trade is already oriented toward the EU market, and membership would grant the country the same market access enjoyed by Germany, Italy, France or Romania.

He also affirmed that Moldova’s declared neutrality is compatible with EU membership, citing Austria, Ireland, Malta and Cyprus as examples. The most difficult issue identified is the Transnistria conflict, which Tomac believes can be addressed within the broader integration process.
