Moldova SMEs drive 73% of national sales, dominate employment

In 2025, Moldova’s 74,400 small and medium‑sized enterprises (SMEs) accounted for 99.7% of all companies and generated 73.4% of the country’s total sales revenue. The wholesale and retail trade segment comprised about 31% of SMEs, producing roughly 253 billion lei (45% of total SME revenue). Agriculture showed the strongest profit growth, tripling from 1.4 billion to 4.4 billion lei, while real‑estate and construction also posted notable gains. The number of energy‑related SMEs rose by 26.1%, the fastest growth among sectors.
