Moldova Sets New Cost Guidelines for Asylum Seekers' Reception
The Moldovan government has drafted a methodological guide to calculate the state budget impact of receiving asylum seekers. The guide estimates annual spending of 3.68 million lei for 2026, 3.41 million lei for 2027 and 3.58 million lei for 2028, based on projected monthly intake of 107, 99 and 104 applicants respectively.
Reference monthly costs are set at 3,027 lei for a working‑age adult, 2,616 lei for a pensioner, and between 974 lei and 2,681 lei for children depending on age. A single‑parent family with one child would cost between 3,357 lei and 5,064 lei per month. These figures cover food, hygiene products, clothing and basic necessities and are used for budgeting, not paid directly to applicants. The Ministry of Internal Affairs will oversee the guide, with the General Inspectorate for Migration updating the values annually according to the minimum subsistence level and inflation.
