Moldova simplifies hiring of foreign seasonal agricultural workers

The Moldovan Inspectorate General for Migration has introduced a streamlined procedure for foreign citizens who come to the Republic for seasonal agricultural work. Workers may be employed for up to nine months within a twelve‑month calendar period under an individual employment contract and a temporary‑stay permit issued by the migration authority.

Employers must submit a notification to the Inspectorate within five working days of starting the activity and must comply with legal requirements on wages, working conditions and, where applicable, accommodation. The simplified documentation requires only a minimal set of supporting papers, and the migration service advises employers to verify the eligibility and travel documents of prospective workers. Violations, such as illegal employment, can lead to administrative sanctions and restrictions on future hiring.

The measure aims to address the increased demand for seasonal labour in Moldova’s agricultural sector while ensuring proper oversight and protection for both workers and employers.
