Moldova State Tax Service issues 2026 road tax notifications

The State Tax Service (SFS) of Moldova has issued notifications to vehicle owners regarding unpaid road use taxes for the year 2026. These notifications target owners of personal vehicles whose technical inspections were conducted between June 1 and December 31, 2025, and who undergo inspections every two years.

The notifications are informative and include specific vehicle data such as the VIN, year of manufacture, and the required tax amount. To facilitate payment, the SFS provided a QR code linking directly to the MPay electronic service. The tax service recommends that owners verify the amount using the online auto calculator before paying. If the 2026 tax has already been settled, the notification may be ignored. In cases where a vehicle has been sold, the obligation to pay any outstanding tax falls to the new owner or possessor.

Additionally, starting October 4, mandatory third-party liability insurance (RCA) policies in Moldova will be calculated based on new insurance premiums and coefficients approved by the National Bank of Moldova. The base premium for domestic RCA is set to increase from 1,257 to 1,420 lei.
