Moldova and Japan discuss bilateral partnership and investment
Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tofan held discussions with Japanese Ambassador Kazuyuki Takeuchi regarding the strengthening of bilateral relations, trade expansion, and attracting Japanese investment to Moldova. The officials reviewed past support provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which has contributed over $140 million toward modernizing agriculture, healthcare, energy resilience, and public institutions. Future cooperation may extend to railway infrastructure and agricultural projects.
Separately, during a private trip to Istanbul, Tofan participated in a 6.5-kilometer swim across the Bosporus Strait alongside his 14-year-old son. Tofan noted the symbolic nature of the swim, which begins on the Asian continent and ends in Europe, paralleling Moldova’s European integration path. While in Turkey, he also met with business representatives to discuss attracting new investments to Moldova.
