Moldova to consolidate state forestry enterprises into single entity
The Moldovan Ministry of Environment is moving forward with the Moldsilva reform, which aims to consolidate 23 state forestry enterprises into a single entity named ‘Pădurile Moldovei’. Scheduled for gradual implementation through 2027, the new structure will feature a unified administration and budget, allowing resources from forest-rich regions to support areas with insufficient revenue to cover operational costs and salaries.
As part of this reorganization, the management of protected natural areas will be separated from the forestry sector and transferred to a new public institution, the ‘National Administration of Protected Areas’. This move is intended to increase efficiency in forest exploitation and improve control over timber commercialization.
Regarding heating needs, Environment Minister Gheorghe Hajder has assured the public that firewood stocks are sufficient for the upcoming cold season. He noted that approximately 45,000 cubic meters are currently in reserve, with an additional 120,000 cubic meters planned for release starting October 15. The Minister also addressed price concerns, stating that while prices vary by enterprise, the reform aims to simplify processes, such as timber transport, to manage costs more effectively.
