Moldova to double EV charging stations to 500 by 2030 with 1.2 bn lei plan

The Republic of Moldova has drafted a National Program for Electric Mobility 2030 that aims to double the public electric‑vehicle charging network from just over 250 stations to at least 500 by 2030. The rollout is budgeted at about 1.191 billion lei, with 3.24 million lei from the state budget, 40.8 million lei from external assistance and the remainder to be sourced from private investors, international financial institutions and public‑private partnerships.

The programme also targets that at least 25 % of the national vehicle fleet be electric or plug‑in hybrid by 2030, seeks a 15 % reduction in CO₂ emissions from road transport versus 2025, and will establish a national system to monitor charging infrastructure. Current figures show roughly 87,800 electric or hybrid vehicles in Moldova, of which 9,850 are fully electric. Registrations rose 35 % for electric cars and 31 % for hybrids in 2025, while the total vehicle fleet grew to about 1.385 million. Energy consumption for the sector is projected to rise from 4.3 GWh in 2025 to 77.8 GWh in 2030 and 109.7 GWh by 2033. Moldova remains heavily dependent on imports for electricity (≈85 %) and for natural gas and transport fuels (100 %).
