Moldova to increase border security following Palanca incident
Moldovan authorities are increasing security measures at border crossing points following an incident at the Palanca-Maiaki-Udobnoe crossing. A projectile landed near the area on Monday morning, striking a parked bus and causing a minor injury to a Border Police officer.
Interior Minister Daniella Misail-Nichitin announced that the government is coordinating inter-institutional actions to ensure the safety of travelers and staff. Proposed measures include consolidating personal protective equipment against shrapnel and creating designated shelter spaces for safe evacuation.
Additionally, officials are discussing the potential withdrawal of Moldovan personnel from joint control points located on Ukrainian territory, moving them instead to the territory of the Republic of Moldova. The government is also working to expedite the implementation of the MD-ALERT system.
