Moldova to increase diesel excise tax by 20% in 2027

The Parliament of Moldova has approved a draft fiscal policy in its first reading that includes a 20% increase in the diesel excise tax, effective January 1, 2027.

Finance Minister Victoria Belous stated that the government intends to protect the agricultural sector from this increase. The state is analyzing a subsidy mechanism to fully reimburse farmers for the additional costs incurred. These targeted measures are expected to be calculated on a per-hectare basis to ensure a 100% restitution of the increased tax amount.

Belous explained that the tax hike is part of a gradual alignment of Moldova’s fiscal policy with European Union standards, noting that current excise rates in the eurozone are significantly higher.
