Moldova to launch beverage container return and recycling system in 2027

The Moldovan government has approved a new system for the collection and recycling of beverage packaging that will become operational in 2027. The scheme will cover plastic, glass and metal containers, allowing consumers to return used bottles and cans and receive monetary refunds. Authorities expect the measure to reduce litter, increase material recovery and turn waste into new resources.

The program is part of a broader effort to modernise waste management and promote circular‑economy practices across the country.
