Moldova to receive 100+ EU‑funded armored vehicles through Estonia‑led procurement

Estonia’s Center for Defense Investments (RKIK) signed a contract with Moldova’s Ministry of Defence and Canadian defence firm Roshel to procure more than 100 tactical armored personnel carriers. The deal, worth about €50 million, is fully financed by the European Union’s European Peace Facility and is scheduled for delivery by May 2027. RKIK director‑general Elmar Vaher said the project will significantly boost the mobility and combat capability of the Moldovan armed forces and contribute to European security.

The acquisition is part of a broader modernisation of Moldova’s army, which already includes Israeli‑made self‑propelled guns, Romanian TAB‑71 tracked vehicles and other weapons systems. The new armoured vehicles are expected to raise Moldova’s defensive capacity amid regional tensions, especially given its proximity to Ukraine and the Russian‑occupied Transnistrian region.
