Moldova to update electronic device and charging regulations

The Moldovan government is planning to update regulations for the sale of electronic devices to align more closely with European Union standards. The new rules will introduce common charging standards and provide consumers with the choice to purchase devices either with or without a charger.

The proposal targets 13 categories of electronics, including smartphones, tablets, headphones, digital cameras, and laptops. These devices will be required to support USB Type-C charging. Additionally, compatible devices must support USB Power Delivery fast-charging technology.

To ensure transparency, sellers will be required to clearly indicate on packaging and in online listings whether a charger is included, along with details regarding charging characteristics and compatibility. The project includes a six-month transition period for compliance after the regulations take effect.
