Moldova truck traffic hits four-day low amid feed import concerns
Truck traffic through Moldova's customs points has reached its lowest level in four days. Between September 5 and September 6, a total of 2,082 trucks passed through 24 customs points, with 1,032 entering the country and 1,050 exiting. Economist Iurie Rija attributes this decline, which included over 500 fewer entries compared to the previous day, primarily to the weekend effect affecting transport companies and customs offices.
Leușeni remains the primary transit point, recording 670 trucks, followed by Giurgiulești 1 and Sculeni. There has also been a significant reduction in commercial flow from Ukraine, particularly in loaded trucks entering Moldova through checkpoints such as Criva and Tudora.
Separately, concerns have been raised regarding the oversight of Ukrainian animal feed imports. Since a derogation in June, over 2,500 tons of feed have entered Moldova. The current control mechanism used by ANSA has been criticized for inefficiencies; in some instances, inspectors take a sample and allow the truck to proceed before lab results are available, leading to cases where livestock consumed feed containing undeclared substances.
