Moldova urges constant supervision of children in summer to curb drownings and accidents

Authorities in Moldova warned that the summer season increases risks for children, including drownings in unauthorized water sites, loss in forests, injuries at construction zones and household accidents such as falls from height or being left unattended in vehicles. Liliana Pușcașu of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations emphasized that most drownings involve children aged 10‑15 and occur during daytime when parents are away. She advised that pools and beaches require continuous adult watch, even when lifeguards are present. Parents should also protect children from excessive sun exposure, keep them visible in crowded areas, teach them how to navigate forested terrain, and secure windows and other hazards at home. The agency recommends calling emergency services (112) immediately in any incident and maintaining vigilant supervision throughout the vacation period.
