Moldova authorities investigate group planning violent mass unrest

Moldovan law enforcement agencies, including the National Investigation Inspectorate (INI), the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS), and PCCOCS prosecutors, are investigating a criminal group suspected of planning large-scale illegal actions and mass unrest.

Preliminary data suggests the group began operating in October 2026, aiming to obtain financial benefits and organize violent actions, including the intentional destruction of public and private property. To mobilize participants, suspects allegedly used fake profiles on TikTok and Facebook, as well as Telegram channels such as ‘ProtestMD’. Some of these accounts were reportedly managed from outside the country.

The group specifically targeted youth from professional and higher education institutions, using manipulative methods to downplay the legal consequences of participating in such unrest. On October 23, 2026, authorities conducted simultaneous searches in Chișinău and the Central and Northern regions of Moldova, supported by the ‘Fulger’ special police unit. Suspects are currently cooperating with law enforcement as investigations continue.
