Moldovan banks issued 7.24 billion lei in new loans

In August 2026, banks in the Republic of Moldova issued new loans totaling 7.24 billion lei, according to data from the National Bank of Moldova.

Approximately 64.4% of these funds, or 4.66 billion lei, were allocated to the business sector. Within this segment, non-financial commercial companies were the largest borrowers, securing 2.359 billion lei in local currency at an average nominal interest rate of 8.58%. Foreign currency loans for businesses reached 1.617 billion lei with an average interest rate of 5.02%.

For individuals, 35.6% of the total financing, amounting to roughly 2.58 billion lei, was distributed. Consumer loans remained the most significant category for the population, with 1.572 billion lei issued in local currency at an average interest rate of 10.96%. Additionally, new real estate loans totaled 975 million lei with an average nominal interest rate of 8.07%.
