Moldovan border police undergo biometric technology training

Border police and representatives from other subdivisions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Moldova are participating in a three-day intensive training workshop focused on biometric technologies. The program, titled “Facilitating regulated migration pathways by optimizing the use of biometrics in identity management,” aims to develop skills for using fingerprint identification and verification technologies at state borders.

The workshop addresses recent developments in biometrics, their potential applications, and the associated ethical and legal challenges. Organizers noted that biometric use can help prevent identity fraud and increase the efficiency of border controls, provided it adheres to data protection laws and relevant standards. The training is supported by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Moldova and the United States Embassy as part of efforts to modernize identity management and strengthen institutional capacities.
