Moldovan 7‑year‑old critically injured after fatal Chalkidiki crash

A multi‑vehicle collision on the provincial road near Chalkidiki on 15 July 2026 killed both parents and a six‑month‑old sibling of a Moldovan family. The sole survivor, 7‑year‑old Patritsia, suffered multiple head, facial and chest injuries, including skull fractures, a collapsed lung and severe jaw damage.

Patritsia has undergone two surgeries; the latest on Friday involved wiring her jaw. She remains in the intensive care unit of the Hippocrates Hospital in Thessaloniki, listed as stable but critically ill. Investigations by the traffic police and a forensic examination are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the crash.

The tragedy has prompted a wave of solidarity in Greece and Moldova. Local authorities and the Moldovan consulate have called for public donations to cover the cost of repatriating the victims' remains. Legal issues have arisen regarding guardianship of the child until her aunt, who is traveling from Moldova, can assume responsibility. The driver of the truck involved was released pending further prosecutorial decisions.
