Moldovan families return from abroad to launch agricultural businesses

Families returning to Moldova after years of living abroad are establishing new agricultural businesses in the country.

Adrian and Ana Faur, who emigrated to Canada in 1995, have invested in a six-hectare blueberry plantation near Cugir. After observing similar agricultural success stories on television, Adrian spent a year researching varieties and technologies, even consulting with an American specialist regarding the Legacy blueberry variety.

In the Hâncești district, the Țapu family has returned to Buțeni after 15 years in Italy to launch a vegetable farming operation. Utilizing nearly two hectares of modern greenhouses purchased from Italy, they cultivate tomatoes and cucumbers from late spring through autumn. The business currently employs over 20 people. However, the entrepreneurs noted that competition from imports remains a significant challenge for their local sales efforts.
