Moldovan Farmers' Association Opposes VAT Hike on Cereals, Oilseeds

The association Forța Fermierilor has publicly rejected the Moldovan Ministry of Finance’s proposal to increase the value‑added tax on cereals and oilseeds from 8 % to 12 %. In a press release the group warned that the measure, outlined in a draft budget‑fiscal policy, could deepen the agricultural crisis and push many farmers into bankruptcy. The association called on the government to withdraw the proposal and reconsider the tax rate, emphasizing the potential damage to the sector.

The VAT increase is part of a broader fiscal plan, but the farmers’ group argues it would disproportionately affect producers of cereals and oilseeds, threatening livelihoods and food‑security concerns in the country.
