Moldovan Farmers Threaten New Protests on June 24 Over Fiscal Demands
The association “Forța Fermierilor” announced it will stage a massive regional protest on 24 June, bringing agricultural machinery onto public roads if its demands are not addressed. The group seeks direct per‑hectare payments for small and medium farms, a halt to any increase in the VAT rate to 20 percent, and a full rebate of the diesel excise tax for 2026. It also wants the south of the country declared a disadvantaged zone.
Farmers say talks with the ministries of Agriculture and Finance have stalled. Finance Minister Andrian Gavriliță said measures are being taken to avoid extra burdens for exporters, including full VAT refunds and diesel tax relief. The protest follows a previous demonstration on 12 June in Cahul, where farmers also called for urgent support for the agricultural sector.
