Moldovan Government Approves Turkish‑Named Technical College in Comrat

The Moldovan Ministry of Education and Research announced the opening of a new Moldo‑Turkish technical college in Comrat, Gagauzia, named after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The institution will offer four engineering and IT programmes – computer networks, programming and testing, electromechanics and electronics – and will teach in Romanian.

Minister Dan Perciun said local authorities in Gagauzia have created administrative blockades, insisting the language of instruction be Russian. He warned, "We must consolidate the linguistic space of the Republic of Moldova and ensure all citizens can study in Romanian." The government will grant a temporary exemption from accreditation rules to allow admissions and operations to begin.

The college aims to enroll about 60 students annually, with an estimated training cost of roughly 30,000 lei per student, addressing a regional shortage of qualified engineers and technicians.
