Moldovan human trafficking suspect detained in Beja, Portugal
A 48-year-old foreign woman has been detained by the Portuguese Judiciary Police in the Beja region. She was wanted by Moldovan authorities to serve a seven-year prison sentence for human trafficking for sexual exploitation.
The incident dates back to 2014, when the suspect allegedly recruited an unemployed woman by offering a false job as a waitress in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, with a monthly salary of 1,000 dollars. The suspect reportedly organized the victim's travel, including flights and visas. Upon arrival, the victim was met by an accomplice and taken to an apartment where she was forced into prostitution against her will.
Following her arrest, the woman appeared before the Évora Court of Appeal, which ordered her to remain in preventive detention while the extradition process proceeds.
