Moldovan judges announce protests over salary legislation
Judges in Moldova have announced a series of protests beginning October 12 in response to proposed legislation regarding public sector salaries. The Association of Judges ‘Vocea Justiției’ is supporting the movement, citing concerns that the new salary project fails to address systemic issues such as insufficient remuneration, excessive workloads, and difficulties in recruiting and retaining qualified personnel.
The protest will initially involve judges wearing white bands on their robes. On the first day, non-urgent court sessions scheduled between 09:00 and 11:00 will be limited or rescheduled. The Association clarified that this is not a strike, as judges will continue to perform their duties, including handling urgent cases, preventive measures, and domestic violence protection orders.
