Romanian pawnshop employee evades jail as embezzlement case prescribed

Cătălin Florin Nistor, a cashier at Express Credit Amanet SRL, was accused of embezzling 19,600 lei by creating fictitious pawn‑loan contracts and signing them fraudulently between June 2019 and December 2019. Prosecutors charged him with delapidation and forgery, and the criminal procedure began on 26 August 2024. On 24 June 2026 the Iaşi Court dismissed the criminal case, invoking the prescription of criminal liability, while noting that the civil claim of the company was fully satisfied. The judgment is not final and can be appealed. The case highlights procedural limits on pursuing financial crimes after the statutory period expires.
