Moldovan manufacturers supply major European automotive and fashion brands

Prime Minister Vasile Tofan highlighted the capacity of Moldovan industry to compete in European markets through quality rather than low costs following visits to enterprises in the Fălești and Ungheni regions.

In the textile sector, the Italian-invested company Idea Moda employs 260 people and produces over 70% of the trousers for the German brand MEYER sold globally. The company is currently expanding its production to include luxury brands such as Moncler.

In the automotive component sector, the factory KABLEM-MLD-IT produces wiring harnesses for major manufacturers including BMW, Audi, Fiat, Peugeot, and Chrysler. Last year, the facility produced approximately six million harnesses with only one recorded complaint.

Despite these successes, local businesses face significant challenges, including intense international competition from regions like Tunisia and Asia, a shortage of skilled labor, and bureaucratic hurdles. Business owners noted that while Moldova cannot compete on price or volume, it maintains a competitive edge through high manufacturing standards.
