Moldovan Opposition Leader Renato Usatîi Accuses SIS Chief of Concealing Cross‑Border Phone Scam

The Moldovan Parliament convened for a plenary session at 11:00, with a docket that includes legislation to expand the automatic 112 emergency‑call system and measures to combat telephone fraud.

In a televised interview, Renato Usatîi, leader of the Partidul Nostru, alleged that Alexandru Musteață, director of the Service for Intelligence and Security (SIS), tried to hide a transnational phone‑fraud network operating from Moldova and targeting victims in Romania, Italy, Spain and France. Usatîi claimed Musteață received months‑long investigative video material but instead called for the resignation of SIS deputy chief Josan Sorin in secret. He urged President Maia Sandu to demand a report on the number of victims and the total amount stolen, accusing the agency of protecting the scheme. The SIS has not commented on the allegations.
