Moldovan Parliament approves new horticultural plantation rules

The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova has approved a draft law in its first reading that introduces new regulations for determining when horticultural plantations enter production. Developed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, the project aims to align legislation with current agricultural practices and improve the efficiency of producer investments.

Under the new rules, the timing for entering production will be determined by several criteria, including the cultivation system, the characteristics of the variety and rootstock, and the type of planting material used. The production and reception of horticultural plantations during the first growing season will follow regulations approved by the Government.

The draft also proposes the removal of provisions regarding the organization, functioning, and financing of the Horticultural Office from the legislation. Responsibilities for developing and implementing horticultural policies will remain with competent public authorities and institutions. Proponents state this change is intended to prevent the duplication of administrative duties and avoid additional costs for horticultural producers and exporters.
