Moldovan Parliament Chief of Staff Tatiana Batin Resigns Amid MoldATSA Scandal

Tatiana Batin, chief of staff to Igor Grosu, President of the Moldovan Parliament, submitted her resignation on 26 June following a public controversy at the state aviation enterprise MoldATSA. The scandal centres on payments to her sister, Anastasia Taburceanu, who earned over one million lei within a year as the agency's spokesperson, prompting accusations of undue favour and misuse of public funds.

Igor Grosu described the departure as a “honourable resignation” made after discussion with Batin, noting that he was aware of her familial ties to President Maia Sandu but considered the step necessary to preserve institutional integrity. President Sandu affirmed she had no role in the hiring of her relatives and highlighted that appointments to such positions do not require competitive selection, while also distancing herself from allegations concerning Batin’s husband, Constantin Batin, who is alleged to have conducted a business swap with a sanctioned Latvian businessman.

The resignation follows broader investigations, including a public‑property agency probe into MoldATSA’s salary practices and earlier dismissals within the enterprise for falsified credentials. The episode has intensified scrutiny of nepotism and governance standards in Moldova’s political arena.
