September 11 attacks marked by 25th anniversary commemorations
The 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks is being marked by commemorations in the United States and internationally. The attacks, carried out by Al-Qaeda, resulted in the deaths of nearly 3,000 people following the hijacking of four commercial aircraft that struck the World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon, while a fourth crashed in Pennsylvania.
