Igor Grosu blames imprisoned figure for coordinated attacks on Moldova's PAS

Moldovan PAS leader and Parliament speaker Igor Grosu claimed that a person inside Penitenciarul No. 13 is orchestrating a media campaign to destabilise the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS). He hinted the individual could be Vladimir Plahotniuc, saying “the man does not waste his time”. Grosu said the attacks aim to undermine PAS ahead of the appeal in the bank‑fraud case that could see Plahotniuc face a longer prison term.

PAS officials admitted that some party members have erred and pledged internal corrections and sanctions. They described the situation as a “concerted attack” by oligarch‑criminal groups keeping influence in Parliament and media. The campaign coincided with public backlash over a fiscal reform and a scandal involving a relative of President Maia Sandu earning a €10,000‑monthly salary from a state company, who has since returned part of the money.

The appeal in the fraud case is scheduled for 24 August, and PAS leadership says the media attacks are intended to weaken the party’s parliamentary majority and the government's authority.
