Moldova pushes EU integration as Ukraine adds it to dual‑citizenship list

Ukraine’s cabinet approved the inclusion of the Republic of Moldova on its list of states eligible for a simplified dual‑citizenship procedure, a move described by Ukrainian officials as a strategic step toward deeper ties and a response to Russian destabilisation attempts.

In Chișinău, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu highlighted that green‑economy investments are integral to Moldova’s European integration agenda, stressing the link between environmental reforms and accession prospects. The same forum featured European Commission for Environment Commissioner Jessika Roswall, who underscored the importance of Chapter 27 (environment) for citizens’ health and the country’s competitiveness.

President Maia Sandu awarded the Order of Honour to Cyprus’s Vice‑Minister for European Affairs, Marilena Raouna, recognizing Cyprus’s support for Moldova’s EU accession. Greek Vice‑Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexandra Papadopoulou also reiterated Greece’s backing, noting the upcoming Greek EU Council Presidency as an opportunity for Moldova’s progress.

Together, these diplomatic gestures, policy announcements, and the new dual‑citizenship pathway signal a coordinated push to align Moldova more closely with the European Union.
