Vasile Tofan advances Moldova's ties with Ukraine, Romania and the United States

Prime Minister Vasile Tofan held a phone conversation with Ukrainian Prime Minister Sergii Koretskii, reaffirming Moldova’s support for Ukraine and discussing urgent water‑management issues on the Nistru River amid low reservoir levels. The leaders agreed to accelerate the Cosăuţi‑Yampil bridge project and deepen rail cooperation for Ukrainian grain shipments to the Black Sea.

During a visit to Bucharest, Tofan urged Romanians living on the right‑bank of the Prut to travel to Chișinău, highlighting three daily flights and the economic opportunities in Moldova. He called on Romanian investors to view Moldova as an under‑estimated export platform for the EU market and Ukraine’s reconstruction, noting bilateral trade of about €4 billion and a 30 % share of Moldovan exports to Romania.

In talks with U.S. Business Attaché Nick Pietrowicz, Tofan announced a U.S. grant of $130 million for the 400 kV Strășeni‑Gutinaș high‑voltage line, the third interconnection with Romania, underscoring the strategic energy partnership. He also cited Moldova’s rise in renewable electricity to roughly 30 % of consumption and ongoing projects to expand cross‑border power and transport links.
