Moldovan Socialists urge VAT reduction on fuel

The Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM) is urging the Parliament to examine a legislative proposal to reduce the Value Added Tax (VAT) on petroleum products from 20% to 10%. Deputies Grigore Novac and Vladimir Odnostalco have advocated for this measure, arguing it could help lower the rising prices of gasoline and diesel.

Socialist representatives have also suggested considering a zero-rate VAT for petroleum products, noting that the state has already collected significant revenue from this tax. They emphasize that such a reduction is necessary to alleviate the economic burden on the population and the agricultural sector, particularly during harvest and preparation periods.

Despite repeated requests to include the initiative on the parliamentary agenda, the ruling PAS party has not moved the project into the legislative procedure. The proposal currently remains unexamined by the legislative leadership.
